A portrait of freediver Kathryn Nevatt, former World Champion and current New Zealand record holder in all three pool disciplines. Filmed through the distinctive Central Otago seasons, the film reflects Kathryn’s philosophy and gives insight into the mind of a freediver. The Breath Connection explores our interconnectedness and affinity with the natural world, ourselves and community.
This short film was made by Aliscia Young (https://www.alisciayoung.com/), Galaxiid (http://www.galaxiid.com/the-breath-connection), a professional photographer and videographer. Aliscia joined the Queenstown Freediving Club to learn to dive for her work and has been learning from and training with Kathryn Nevatt.
The Breath Connection has been selected for the DocEdge Festival 2019, in Auckland and Wellington in June and has won a Special Jury Award at the New Zealand Mountain Film Festival 2019 which will be showing in Wanaka and Queenstown in July.
